SharePoint 2010 "The language of this installation package is not supported by your system"

Installing SharePoint 2010 on a x64 Vista or Windows 7 workstation is great, if you read the instructions properly…

Following the instructions works. No need to re-gurgitate… however this little supposed “unsupported language” problem cropped up… well I should really have RTFM

To extract the files from the .exe, actually use the extract switch as instructed, not 7zip or your preferred decompression tool…

OfficeServer.exe /extract:c:SP2010

That’s all – elementary mistake really… also remember to install the hotfix before running the configuration wizard.

Those who are trying to install SharePointFoundation 2010 Server needs to type:
    c:SharePointFilesSharePointFoundation /extract:c:SharePointFiles

Hope this helps……………………… easy as 1,2,3..

    1. Download SharePoint =
put the setup file to a new folder: C:SharePointFiles (I downloaded: SharePoint_SP2_en-us.exe )

    2. Extract the file =
open dos prompt, cd to the new folder, and run this command:
    c:SharePointFilesSharePoint_SP2_en-us.exe /extract:c:SharePointFiles
(Where SharePoint_SP2_en-us.exe is the name of the file you downloaded)

    3. edit config.xml =
navigate to this folder in the file system: C:SharePointFilesFilesSetup
Add this line to the config.xml:
    ( between the tags )

Now you can run the setup: c:SharePointFiles> setup.exe
